Who are the Rinewedians? PDF Print E-mail

Although there has been a loose organisation of old boys for over 55 years,  the first important meeting to put it on a proper footing was on Saturday the 10th July 1976. The then Secretary,  Nigel Roberts with the assistance of Brian Sloman, gathered together old boys and the departing staff, and met in the old school building for the last time.   A Committee was formed of a Chairman, a Treasurer (Geoff Dominy) and a Secretary, (Brian Sloman elected after Nigel Roberts resigned on the day)With a Committee comprising of Mr Jerams, Dai Dower, Mr Lambert and Miss Pat Bowring, the Old Boys Association was on its way.

The following year the local paper reported the meeting at the Crown Hotel in Ringwood where thirty five old boys, one from as far away as Canada, gathered and agreed to organise a formal dinner and reunion once a year around Christmas time. Following these meetings a mailing list was drawn up of all old boys that could be contacted and that the venue for the reunion would be the Yenton Hotel in Bournemouth.

Not much documentation remains of these early meetings.  One in 1980 shows Brenda Pitts, Richard Bray, Pat Bowring, Chris Shiner, Richard Schillig and Tim Ayres on the Committee.  A letter of 1985 is signed Stuart Forsyth as Secretary.

The main driving force behind the Rinewedians from the 1980s to 2003 was the ex music teacher Chris Shiner.  He researched the Schools history and acquired copies of documents going back to the founding of the School in 1577. His last act was to mount a commemorative plaque on the walls of the old school, but sadly he died that very morning.

The wife of the late headmaster, Mrs June Forsyth took over in 2003 and continued to 2005 when old boy Howard Nichols took over as Secretary while Mrs Forsyth was elected as President.

Today the Committee is

Mrs June Forsyth, President..       Mr David Coxon, Chairman..      Mr John Guy,  Vice Chairmen..     Mr Geoffrey Carpenter, Treasurer..   Mr Howard Nichols, Secretary..   Mr Gerry Ford, Advertising..  Committee Members are Mr Tony Hopson, Michael Baker, Peter Lee, Max Childs, Derek Goulding and Michael Spreadbury.
